Martin Mansley learned to ring in Lancashire as part of a ringing family - he still has his father’s diary showing his first ringing meeting at a few weeks old! Martin thinks he was about 10 when he actually learned. Martin’s daughter, Helen (probably much better known than him these days) is carrying on the family connection with ringing.
Martin moved to Devon in 1979 via work periods of a few years each (plenty of ringing!) in Leicestershire and Wiltshire. He first rang in Exeter but moved to Torquay in 1983. Martin has been captain of St Mary church ringers since 1988 and Branch ringing Master (Mid Devon Branch) for about the same time. Martin hopes to relinquish the Branch RM job at the AGM in November. Martin is also a Vice President of the Guild. He has held several offices in the Guild including Exeter branch secretary and Guild Education officer (the first one) for 14 years.
